Hulkmania: WWE severs ties to wrestling legend for racist remarks
Terry Bollea — known to the world as Hulk Hogan — made a career for himself in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) utilizing his mouth just as much as his muscles. Over the last few decades, he has cultivated an image as a born-again Christian and role model, but that all seems set to change.
The National Enquirer recently unveiled the transcript of Hogan’s 2007 sex tape in which he uses the N-word — among other racial slurs — repeatedly and with force. Among these remarks included scathing attacks on his daughter Brooke for sleeping with black men, and the fairly unambiguous statement that “I guess we’re all a little racist.”
In response to this revelation, the WWE has reacted quickly, severing all ties with the wrestling legend.
Hogan himself spoke, issuing a timely apology for the 2007 remarks:
“Eight years ago, I used offensive language during a conversation. It was unacceptable for me to have used that offensive language; there is no excuse for it; and I apologize for having done it… This is not who I am. I believe very strongly that every person in the world is important and should not be treated differently based on race, gender, orientation, religious beliefs or otherwise. I am disappointed with myself that I used language that is offensive and inconsistent with my own beliefs.”
Thank you to all my friends, family and business partners for all your love and support, you guys know who I really am and I love u 4 that. HH

These statements seems to confirm the validity of the transcript, as Hogan says nothing to dispute the claims. TMZ reports that Dennis Rodman — another 1990’s legend and longtime friend of Hogan — has come forward to rally support for the wrestler, but no one seems to have jumped on that bandwagon thus far. In today’s already racially sensitive environment, people seem to be treading lightly when it comes to supporting someone who admits to such comments.
