This African airport was voted best in 2016
According to the SkyTrax World Airport Awards, Cape Town International Airport is the best airport in Africa. The Cape Town International Airport is the third busiest on the continent and the second busiest in South Africa, with around 14 million travelers having passed through it in 2015. It links Cape Town to various countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe with direct flights. Lauded for its clean amenities, infrastructure, and excellent service, the Cape Town International Airport has won awards both regionally and internationally. It was ranked the best airport in Africa last year, as well.
SkyTrax, specialist research advisers to the air transport industry, are a UK based consultancy that provides advice and expertise to airlines and airports all over the world. They operate the global Airline and Airport Review online guide, an airline review and air travel information website. This year’s World Airport Awards were presented to achievers in the airport industry in a poll voted by over 13 million customers. The poll took place in the form of a global airport customer satisfaction survey that measured the opinions of travelers from over 100 nationalities and in 550 airports worldwide.

South Africa made its mark on the list of best airports in Africa with six airports in total. While Cape Town International Airport took the first place, airports in Johannesburg, Durban, East London, Port Elizabeth, and Bloemfontein also made the top 10. Recently, the country was in the news for unveiling Africa’s first solar powered airport in the Western Cape.
Cape Town also ranked first for best airport staff in Africa. The best African regional airport went to Durban King Shaka, and the best airport hotel in Africa according to this survey is InterContinental OR Tambo in Johannesburg.
