Trend Report: Kimonos Are Your New Summer Fashion Staple

Trend Report: Kimonos Are Your New Summer Fashion Staple

Summer is coming and that means we must – although rather begrudgingly – put our cardigans aside.  Fear not, we have found the perfect summer alternative: the kimono.

Kimonos are the perfect lightweight layer for warmer days. They give you some protection against the occasional summer breeze and add pizzazz to any outfit without weighing you down — Not to mention the fact that they are incredibly stylish and fun.

Celebrities like Miley Cyrus,  Nicole Richie, and Jessica Alba have all been spotted rocking the kimono trend. We particularly like the way Kourtney Kardashian paired her Wayf Floral Kimono, available at Nordstroms, with torn jean shorts and a white v-neck shirt. The overall look is perfect for any summer activity, from the beach, to the park, and to running errands. Jessica Alba was also spotted wearing the same kimono, as a swim suit cover up over her bikini at the beach.

The great thing about kimonos is that they look great with the most basic outfits in your closet. Kimonos can easily bring your favorite t-shirt and jeans look to life, and they are the perfect excuse to incorporate fun floral patterns  — that you might not usually go for — into your wardrobe.

We also love to pair them with simple summer dresses to give an elegant flair to our casual summer go-to’s.

Two of our favorites is this Free People Patterned Kimono Cardi from Zappos.com for $67 and this splurge-worthy “Dessert Wanderer” Kimono from Spell & Gypsy Collective with a price tag of $242.

A few more budget friendly options that we adore include this Goddess Rose Longline Kimono from Forever21.com for only $22 and this chic white Kimono Cardigan from AliExpress.com.

Whether at the beach this summer, or at a summer music festival, kimonos are the perfect choice.
