Striped Sleeves are Back, and Not Just for Jocks
Alright, let’s talk striped sleeves. We know what you might be thinking, “striped sleeves?! I thought those died out along with hideous pants in 1985.” Well, no. Hideous pants have always been here in shape or another. And no, striped sleeves have not been eradicated. Don’t you pay attention to any of our other articles? Trends come full circle, people, and striped sleeves have 360-ed their way back into our hearts.
It doesn’t matter if you’re not a jock; that is not a prerequisite for wearing striped sleeves. In fact, with a couple of tips from your dear friends at MUIPR, you could be rocking this lighthearted trend any time you want. OK, let’s stop wasting time. We’ll show you potential pairings to get you inspired, but feel free to continue the conversation in our comments section!
Check out this sporty little number from one of our favorite stores for the young (or old!) and fashionable, Madewell. Notice how the model pairs a simple jersey-inspired long-sleeve shirt with a pair of jeans in order to create a no-nonsense pairing that is easy to throw together and looks great! The fact that this shirt has a pop of color itself means you can tone down the rest of the outfit and wear the shirt with any of your favorite jeans.
Have you ever heard the expression, “stacks on stacks on stacks”? Well, we would like to take our chance to formally change that to “stripes on stripes on stripes.” This model really wows us by daringly combining horizontal stripes with our beloved striped sleeves. The results? Something inspired by varsity culture that somehow manages to barely hint at its sporty past. Looks like sports-inspired fashion better up its game if it wants to compete with this incredible J.Crew look. What makes this shirt even better is that the white and black combo gives a modern touch to a this otherwise casual aesthetic.
Here’s another incredible look that, while sports inspired, somehow manages to leave the world of baseballs and lacrosse sticks far behind. The wide-leg, airy pant complements a striped sleeve and invokes a image of careless, yet high fashion comfort. It seems as though the model is almost as light as air, as she peers out doeishly from within the folds of fabric. It may seem as though the over-sized, over-simple style may be created for a daintier frame, but we beg to differ. Any body shape and size can wear this sassy oversized look, and we can confidently say it will look incredible on all types.
All in all, we are loving striped sleeves because they give fancy shirts a casual twist, and casual shirts a classy touch.
