Fashion Spotlight: Fatima Siad
Fatima Siad is by far one of the most successful America’s Next Top Model (ANTM) contestant ever.
She may not have won-she left the hit reality show as a third runner-up-but, losing might have been the best thing to happen to her fashion model career.
Born in Somalia to a Somali mother and Ethiopian father, Siad and her mother fled to the United States after her sisters were killed by the army in Somali.
She later became a contestant on ANTM cycle 10 reportedly without any prior knowledge of fashion. Participating in the show opened up opportunities to a successful modeling career. After her brief stint on ANTM, she was immediately scooped up by New York Models.
Her career breakthrough happened in spring 2012 when she hit the catwalk for Dries Van Noten and Hermès, the first ever for an ANTM contestant. She was also featured in Hervé Léger’s spring 2012 campaign shot by Swedish photographer Camilla Akrans.
In 2013, she landed a role in the runway show for Ralph Lauren during the just concluded Spring/Summer 2014 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. She was also the star of the Ralph Lauren Spring/Summer 2014 collection campaign.
According to her Instagram page, she was featured in the 2014 Lookbook for Marc Jacobs and also walked the runway of Dennis Basso during the Fall 2014 Fashion Week in New York City.
These are just few of her many high fashion jobs since leaving ANTM. Many ANTM contestants and even winners do not come close to experiencing the successful career Siad has had in the past couple of years.
