Boys Vs Girls: The Best Looks of the 2014 MTV VMAs
The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) are about more than just music, they are about celebrities, creativity, and fashion. Straight from the 2014 awards show, we are bringing you coverage about who wore what, in a boys versus girls listicle of the top 10 looks at the event.
Sam Smith. Always one to be cool and collected, Sam Smith graced us with his presence in his classic look: a dark suit with a white button up and no tie. Nothing too showy for the singing sensation, but nevertheless he looks great.
Kesha. If we had to pick a female equivalent to Sam Smith’s black-tie-event look, it would have to be Kesha. The pop star shocked us by ditching her usual bold look and choosing to opt for a more classic white ball gown with dazzling beading throughout.
Jeremy Scott. American fashion designer Jeremy Scott made sure to stand out from the crowd at this year’s VMAs. The designer turned heads in a head-to-toe highlighter yellow outfit featuring yellow pants, a yellow tailcoat with a smiley face detail on the back, and – surprise – no shirt.
Gwen Stefani. Highlighter colors seem to be on trend, at least for a few stars. Gwen Stefani tried her hand at the trend, this time in a bright pink and black outfit from her own collection, L.A.M.B. The singer paired matching pants and sleeveless top with bright pink lipstick and black shoes and accessories.
5 Seconds of Summer. Australian pop punk boy band, 5 Seconds of Summer came into the VMAs dressed in very punk clothing. Black leather, red, black skinny jeans were the theme for the boy band, accessorized with facial piercings, rock on hand signs, and stuck out tongues.
Ariana Grande. Long gone are the days of Nickelodeon, Ariana Grande is all grown up, and she is here to prove it. Taking a stab at the punk rock look, Grande looks fierce in an all black leather getup. The singer-actress wore over-the-knee boots, a short leather mini dress, and slicked back hair.
Tyler Posey. “Teen Wolf” star Tyler Posey looks casual as can be as he arrived to the VMAs. Dressed in jeans and a cotton t-shirt, the actor looked very at ease on the red carpet. If it hadn’t been for his clean shave and flashing camera lights in his direction, though, we might have mistaken him for a lost audience member.
Arden Cho. No one can compare to Posey’s casual look, so we won’t even bother here. Instead, let’s focus on one of the most beautiful dresses of the night, which happened to belong to Posey’s “Teen Wolf” co-star: Arden Cho’s short, and shiny strapless number. The dress is modern and edgy, but Cho somehow pulls it off while still looking girly and effortless.
Jordin Sparks and Jason Derulo. We are obsessed with all things Jordin Sparks, and these matching white outfits are no exception. Sparks and Derulo somehow pull off matching outfits at the VMAs while still looking cool and classy. Twinning is always a risk, but the duo was able to pull it off with ease.
Katy Perry and Riff Raff. As we have seen, twinning can be cute and classy. Then, there is Katy Perry and Riff Raff. The two showed up in head to toe denim outfits — a throwback to the classic Britney and Justin denim American Music Awards outfits of 2001.
